Westgate Chess Club

Welcome to Westgate Chess Club!

The Westgate Chess Club is a Westgate PTA sponsored club where students in grades 3-5 learn about chess and then play the game for fun. Chess is a great way to develop problem solving skills and strategic thinking in a fun environment with peers!  It also aligns with Leader in Me, such as begin with the end in mind, seek first to understand then be understood, and synergize.

*Each meeting has a short lesson on a new strategy or aspect of the game and then allows time for students to play chess. We welcome beginner to advanced players and advocate practicing good sportsmanship and improving individual chess ability. NO previous chess experience is required!

*We are currently seeking a Chess Club expert to share their knowledge and teach techniques to the students.  Until this person has been identified students will be partnered with peers to practice their knowledge of chess.

Individuals with disabilities should notify the building principal if they have a disability that will require special assistance or services. Please give the building principal advance notice of 24 hours. Thank you.  (Board Policy 8:70)
NOTE: This event is solely sponsored by the PTA. School staff may not be present and have no responsibility for the event. Please direct all inquiries or concerns to Lisa Fischer at lisafischer@gmail.com
